Some of the dramatic effect of this image is, I believe, the result of two separate satellite passes, but it evocatively captures the limbo of exurbia. Alas, the commentary it accompanies raises the right questions—what will we do with all the extra McMansions?—but offers strangely unfocused and soft-headed answers. More creative and incisive culture making will be required.
